49- A Return to Birth Weight

It wasn’t just the hubris of a straight, white, cis man that lead me to set the line at 10 strokes vs 10 lbs. Ramona lost a little more than 10% of her birth weight in the first few chaotic days, and I though I’d have a lot of time. Jokes on me. Ramona soon learned that she can create a snowball effect - keeping me up all night with cluster feedings (which destroys my golf game) while packing on the ounces. By her two weeks check in she was already back over birthweight, and meanwhile, I was stuck in the mid-50’s.

Today I returned to my PB, a 49, and it could have gone much lower. The secret? A fancy new push cart that was a gift from my in-laws. I’d been schlepping my clubs on my back, and given the amount of back/soas pain that having a newborn can cause, my game was deteriorating rapidly. This was my first round with the push cart, and it was a game changer. If not for a blowup on the salt mines caused by an aggressive approach down the tree line, this would have been a new PB. Indeed, that was my only hole with more than a double bogey. Don’t get me wrong, a quad three doubles isn’t good, but a par and four bogeys is progress for me. Cash to Ramona: $30
