Holes 7-9: Oops
These holes have many chances for mistakes, but each could realistically gain a stroke if played well.
Hole 7: Trebecca
A short par four with an open fairway that runs downhill and right. Smart play is to bomb long and miss left, even playing from the adjacent fairway is a doable up and down for par.
Path to Par
Shot 1: Driver 270
Play to the left, line is over first large tree.
The fairway runs downhill and right, and tons of room, so be aggressive and swing away.
Shot 2: LW 20
Aim point is always left side of green - there is a glass false front to the front and right. Only flat point is dead center.
Do not go long - ob risk is real.
Hole 8: Greenscape
A par three with trees blocking left, an aggressively sloping hill right, OB long, and a ravine short. The relatively small green favors playing long, and has a small backstop long and left.
Path to Bogie
Shot 1: 7-I, 135
Play long and left - better to be on the green of hole 1 than in hell on the right or the ravine in front.
Approach has backstop straight back, so better to be in fairway and right than long and wide.
Shot 2: LW, 20
Green is always surprisingly quick and runs from back to front, so miss long and east.
Hole 9: Plateau
The one handicap, with all of the hallmarks of VIGCC in one hole. Narrow, tree-lined fairways, a ravine in the approach, and tons of sloping and unkind lies. There’s a natural backstop, and a flat valley with the kindest lies of the hole at the bottom of the very wide ravine, so going long is the play.
Path to Par
Shot 1: Driver 250
Must hit fairway - right is OB, left is tree jail and then water.
Shot 2: 7I 150
Focus on loft and contact, club up rather than swing too hard.
Do not leave short or left - aimpoint is long and right.
Green is uniformly sloping from back right to front left.
