100 - Finishing Strong, Playing Weak
I handed Ramona off at 7:00 AM and went straight to the golf course. My mental was weak, as exemplified through the blow-ups on the 4th and 5th holes. I was in a greenside bunker in three on a par 5. But after taking 5 hacks at the sand, a double-par 10 is all I could muster. Miraculously, I managed to calm the mind and recover with a decent hole on my nemesis 6th and a birdie on the 7th after nearly driving the par-four green. I decided to turn around and seek immediate redemption, and I’m glad I did.
The back nine wasn’t flashy, but I changed my approach to try to minimize blowups and just go for a bogie on every hole. And, I nearly did (ignore the 5th and 8th). 11 over isn’t going to help me win the bet, but it is going to get me a lot closer than 18-over. And I ended with a bit of quality. I drove to the A+ position, dead center fairway at the very top of the gulley. Then I took an easy swing with a PW, landed two feet short and rolled just past to three feet long. Tap-in birdies the easy way sure feel nice. I owe Ramona $35 for the front nine and $30 for the back.
In troubling news, the updated trend line has me not breaking 40 until late August. Ramona will be pushing 20 lbs by then.
